Goals

I haven’t posted in a really long time so I guess I’ve kind of failed at one of my goals already. But I was on Pinterest a little bit ago and found this quote. I like it a lot, because there are several messages in it.

The first part is, “Mirror, mirror on the wall.” This is a good way to start the quote because not only does it allow it to sound like a Disney rhyme, but it also shows that sometimes you have to sit back and look at yourself. You have to figure out who you are and who you want to be.

This leads to the next line, “I’ll always get up after I fall.” This is telling us that even though we may stumble a few times while attempting to reach a goal, you have to get up and keep trying until you conquer it.

The next line, “Whether I run, walk or have to crawl,” goes right along with the one before it. It tells us that our goals will be difficult, but we can eventually reach them and beat them.

And finally, “I will set my goals and achieve them all.” Which basically speaks for itself. You need to set goals for yourself and work towards them. With hard work and willingness you can achieve all your goals.

Goal setting, I believe, is one of the most important things for people to do. It gives you something to work for and look forward to. Both long-term and short-term goals are good for everyone. Something as small as not using the snooze on your alarm to something larger, such as losing ten pounds. Both result in affecting your mood and ambitions for the day.

What I really want out of this post is to allow people to see how goal setting is so important and rewarding in their day-to-day lives.*

Happiness

quote

Happiness. Such a simple word to have so much meaning behind it. I think one reason why so many people aren’t happy in this day and age, is because we are all so focused on how we think things should be versus how they really are.

It’s kind of crazy how things like a movie or another person can affect our happiness so much. When you see someone with the “perfect life” in a movie, it often makes you think of all the things you don’t have. This usually causes us to miss the things we do have in life, though. People should learn to be content with what they have and appreciate it more. But also, when you pass a stranger on the street, you shouldn’t have to wonder why they look a certain way and you don’t. Little things like that shouldn’t affect our daily lives as much as they do. I know I’m guilty for these things as well, but I am human.

Sometimes, I think about how lucky I am to have the loving family and supportive friends that I do. This puts my mind at ease and allows me to feel pure joy. Something everyone should feel. Sometimes, I think people get so caught up in the way they think their life should be, that they miss everything that is happening right in front of them. Without focusing on these things, how will you ever be happy with what you have? The answer is that you won’t. You have to learn to love what you have to be happy.

There is always going to be something that you think you need, but really, if you needed it, wouldn’t you already have it? I think this quote really just expresses my opinion in a shorter version. It tells you to let go of your ideas of how you think life should be and just be happy with what you have. This way you can see how happy you really are.*

Authenticity

authentic (aw-then-tik) adj.

not false or copied; genuine; real

One of my favorite quotes reads: “Dare to be fearlessly authentic.” The first time I heard this, I didn’t even know what authentic meant, so being the nerd that I am, I looked up the definition and stumbled across this. Right away I knew I needed to be living by this quote.

In today’s society, it can be hard to be yourself. Whether it be the way you dress, how your hair looks or even the career of your choice. People judge you for all of these things, anyways. So why not just be yourself and do what makes you happy? It is important to do the things that are important in your life and keep them close to you.

No one else’s opinion should matter than your own. This is also hard for a lot of people, especially people who grow up in small town like myself. Where I live, everyone knows everything about everyone within a week. This is where most people struggle being themselves and trying to express themselves. We are all too afraid of what people will think of us. No one can say they’re not guilty of this, because everyone is, but it doesn’t mean we have to be  so insecure about ourselves that it changes the way we live and think of ourselves.

If the way you look is changing the way you see yourself, then this is a sign that you aren’t living your life the way you want to. No girl should think that she needs to wear ten pounds of makeup to impress people and no boy should try to play four sports just to be considered “cool.” You should spend your time doing what makes you happy and keeping your self-esteem high.

Having a high self-esteem doesn’t always mean that someone is self-centered. It simply means that they are confident in themselves and aren’t afraid to show it. These are the people who volunteer first for events and are willing to help others without being afraid of how other people will think of them.

In conclusion, go out and be yourself. Try to go an entire day without allowing yourself to be discouraged by what you think others think of you. Wear your favorite outfit, do your hair and go do something you love. Never be afraid to be yourself, because you are authentic!*

Success & Self Worth

I think this is a topic that is very controversial for a lot of people. Everyone has a different way of measuring the successes in their life, but I don’t think people pay attention to all the different little “wins” each of us have everyday.

One of my favorite things to do is set goals for myself and when I reach them I let myself do something for myself for reaching that goal. Even if it’s something as simple as cleaning my room and treating myself to a small piece of chocolate. Or when I finish a tough workout I allow myself to a warm bath. These are the things I think people look over too often. I’m not saying that everyone should eat chocolate every time they make their bed, but I do think it is important to respect yourself and give yourself some credit. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, life is hard. There is struggle in each day of our lives, big and small. Those are the days you especially need to try your hardest to appreciate yourself.

Everyday while brushing your teeth, think of something nice about yourself. Even if it is something as simple as the way your shirt looks on you or the way your eyes squint when you smile. Things like this can improve your mood and help you to have a better day. It’s amazing, how when you change your opinion of yourself, you begin to see changes in the way you feel about yourself throughout your daily life.

This is just one more thing I have been trying to do this year. I have been doing my best to compliment myself and stop beating myself up. I was always one of the worst people about this. I thought every pair of jeans made my butt look huge and my hair made me look like I just rolled out of bed. But I’ve come to realize that the only person who noticed any of this was me! If I said anything about it to someone else they didn’t even know what I was talking about!

I guess what I am really trying to get out of this post is that you should celebrate yourself sometimes and appreciate yourself for all that you do throughout each and every day. There is always going to be good and bad days, but when you have the right mindset, you can have the confidence to face those challenges and conquer them.*

Dreams

“All people dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their mind, wake in the morning to find that it was vanity.

But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people. For they dream their dreams with open eyes, and make them come true.”

-T. E. Lawrence

I think this is such a good poem to look back at and think about. I keep a copy of it pinned to a bulletin board in my bedroom. There is a lot of truth behind this poem, though.

Everyone has dreams, both big and small. But there are two types of people in this world: introverts and extroverts. Introverts tend to be more quiet and shy, while extroverts are more talkative and outgoing.

In my opinion, no one should be afraid to tell people about their dreams. Whether it be your dream house or your dream job, you shouldn’t be ashamed to tell people these things.

I think what this poem is really trying to say is that some people have big dreams and think that there is no possible way that they could turn that into a reality. These are who the author refers to as the people who dream by night. There are also people out there who chase their dreams and look for ways to achieve them and reach their goals. These are the dreamers of the day.

One way that I am trying to do this to improve my own life is by getting out of my comfort zone a little bit. I have always had longer hair and I decided, instead, to chop it all off recently. I have also never been big in wearing nice clothes, but I am beginning to do that as well more often. Just small things like these can lead to big changes in the way you live your life. I think it is so important to be yourself and not let other people define who you are, so getting out of my comfort zone and not letting other people’s opinions of me affect my opinion of myself is such a good goal that I have made and am continuing to reach every day.*

Gratitude & Work Ethic

quote-1

I think sometimes people miss this in their life a little too much. Since the beginning of the new year I have been trying to do all that I can to make myself become a better person. This is actually a real struggle for me, because I don’t ever know where to start. One of the first things I began doing, though, was expressing daily gratitude. Every night, before I go to bed, I get out my planner and write down three or more things that I am thankful for. I think this is something everyone should try to keep track of. You don’t have to go think of big and amazing things to write down, you can simply be grateful for the air you breath and the food you have to eat. These are just some of the things that we forget about that we are so lucky to have. There are countries all over the world that have children and adults alike going hungry, while we are over here not even saving our leftovers from supper. One day, I want to go on a mission trip to help others who are less fortunate. Maybe I won’t change the world, but I believe that I can change one person’s world if I try.

I also have a lot of things in life that I want. In order to have those things, though, I need to put forth the effort it takes to get those items. I am going to need a car here within the next year and I am going to have to find a way to pay for that and the gas I put into it. With those things in mind, I also have to pay for my phone each month; the only way to do these things is by working to earn money for myself. But that is just the start. What about when it comes to going out with your friends to the mall or taking your siblings to the movies? That is where the work comes in again. These are all things that I wish to do, but the only way to have them is by working to get there.

One thing I want my kids to learn from me one day, is that your work ethic is so important. If you don’t work hard, you may as well just not work at all. There has never been a basketball player that went to the NBA by slacking off during practice. No, he works his butt off every game, every practice to get to where he is now.  I hope my kids learn to be grateful for everything and to work hard always. These two things are some of the most important things in life to know and have. It doesn’t cost or hurt you at all by thinking of two or three things you are thankful for before falling asleep each night and to wake in the morning and try your best at everything you do that day. *

Why I Am Doing This

This is my first time ever trying something like this. What I’m hoping to achieve from this blog isn’t to gain a known name or to make money, I think I’m more doing this to give me a reason to use my creative thinking and to get to know myself better. Maybe even for a little bit of a confidence boost, but I guess we will have to see where it takes me. My goal is to post at least one thing each week, so we’ll see how this goes. I think I just needed a change in my routine. Change is a good thing, though, right?
